 Maureen Carnakie Baker

Maureen Carnakie-Baker, affectionately known as “Mo," is not only a co-founder of Gyrlfriend Collective, along with Dr. Marquita S. Blades, she is also an advocate for financial health and wellbeing. Using her innate ability to connect with others, she works in the financial and healthcare technology industry as a consultant, providing advisory services to Fortune 500 companies.

Earning a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Georgia State University, Maureen is able to connect her love for people with her passion for fiscal health. After her contributions on how to handle financial situations with gyrlfriends, Maureen is using her financial acumen to publish a standalone resource to inspire and support the average nine-to-fiver.

From humble beginnings herself, she was one of five children, born and raised in New York City. A middle child in a house full of predominantly women, life could be fun at times, and easily hormonal at others. Weekdays consisted of battles over bathroom time, while weekends entailed enjoying the latest jams from the radio while playing cards or dancing in the middle of the living room.

Known to many as the mediator, Maureen enjoys hanging with her gyrlfriends, hosting dinner parties, and lending a listening ear while strategizing on how to help you to solve your problem.

To this day, Maureen considers herself to be a quintessential student, labeling her journey, an eve-olution. She works diligently to keep up with an ever-changing financial and technological industry while helping others fill in the gap on their road to financial health.

A firm believer of incremental changes having the potential to yield substantial results, Maureen mentors others (youth and adults) aiming to cultivate untapped capability. Maureen knows that the right combination of knowledge, access, and confidence has the potential to be a generational game changer in the lives of others.
